The Acrylic Bread Slicer makes it easy to cut your homemade breads into nice, even slices without getting crumbs all over the kitchen!
This is an adequate no-frills manual bread slicer, and adequate is the operative word. The crumb catcher eliminates messes, making this slicer a much cleaner option than slicing bread on a cutting board. Also, you can achieve uniform 1/2-inch slices; the only caveat is that you can't adjust the slicer to cut any thicker or thinner. Use your longest serrated knife when cutting, because a knife that just barely spans the width of the slicing tray will keep slipping out of the acrylic slicing guides. The guides have no top support and tend to wobble a bit as you slice. They also have inexplicably high sides; you'd have to use triple the leavening to make bread that reaches the top of them. Despite its design limitations, the Norpro deluxe bread slicer is easy to assemble and maintain and has an attractive overall look. --Carol Gnojewski

Comment: This is a great bread slicer. I like that the base is wood and that the slats catch most of the crumbs while slicing. Easy to use and to empty, too. The only improvement I would make would be rubber feet to keep it from slipping around on the counter. I also think that the slicing guides would be better made of metal, but the plastic works okay. Great item for the price. I'll see if I can buy rubber feet at the home improvement store, then it will be about perfect!

Comment: I started to make bread again in my bread maker. However it seems like I was not able to get an even slice for toasting. This slicer helps keep the knife evenly spaced for each slice. I had a little trouble keeping the sides together so the end plate would not fall out, but finally got the system going. Now I need to purchase a good sharp bread slicing knife to make my life perfect.

It *is* too wide for the bread knives included in most cutting blocks. It is also wider than necessary for most bread machine loaves.
