Editorial Review:
This award winning card game is for one or more players. It is recommended for ages six and above. The object of the game is to identify "sets" of three cards. Each card is unique in its four features; color - red, green or purple, symbol - diamond, squiggle or oval, shading - solid, striped or open, and number - 1, 2 or 3. A "set" consists of three cards on which each feature is either the same on all of the cards, or different on all of the cards. This game contains complete instructions for play, 81 cards, and a durable plastic carrying case.
SET is a card game of quick recognition and deduction. Each card contains one of three symbols (squiggles, diamonds, ovals) in varying numbers (up to three), colors (purple, green, red), and degrees of shading. A dealer arranges 12 cards, face up, and the players--without taking turns--hastily scrutinize the images for logical "sets" of three cards linked by combinations of sameness or difference. It's not as complicated as it sounds: examples include a trio of paired ovals with increasing levels of shading between cards, or disparate symbols in different colors which increase in number on each card (card one has a green squiggle, card two a pair of purple ovals, card three a trio of diamonds). The trick is to keep calm while trying to make the rapid connections. The Darwinian nature of the game (remember: everyone plays simultaneously) is certain to cause some feistiness among more competitive players. --Tom Keogh

Summary: Great for your 6-7 year old, and UP!
Comment: Set is about pattern-making, but the patterns touch 4 different categories: shape, color, number and shade. My 7 year-old learned the rules in a few minutes, and we were quickly playing. It's an enjoyable, addictive game, but also requiring concentration and focus to succeed. I highly recommend for the game-oriented family with kids 6+.

Comment: Friends introduced us to this game several years ago and we've been hooked. Since then, we've had kids. Four things:

1. It is great as a competitive game with great suspense as everyone stares intently at the cards laid out.

2. We've also played cooperatively and we don't keep score.

3. Our toddler makes up matches of two and tells us what he's matching i.e. shape, color, number etc.

4. It helps sharpen those categorization/matching brain cells. Each picture can be broken into four variables, i. the number of shapes ii. the shape itself, iii. the color of the shape iv. and the fill type. Each variable can be one of three variations i.e. three colors, three shapes etc. A set is made when each variable in a set of three cards is either all the same or all different.

We have bought this game for numerous friends and family. Makes a great small birthday gift, stocking stuffer, thank you gift etc.
We're also hooked on Quiddler - a kind of a cross between Scrabble and Rumy.

Summary: Brilliant
Comment: A perfect game that is easy enough to play with your 10 year old but hard enough that he or she might beat you!

Summary: Set Card Game
Comment: We first played this game with a group of seven, it took a few rounds to memorize all the rules, but we had a blast by the end. We also played with two people and it was also fun. You have to think and watch quickly!
